Prove the systems work together — not just one at a time

Every individual fire protection system in a building gets acceptance-tested: the alarm per NFPA 72, sprinklers per their own standards, smoke control per the code. What those tests don't prove is the part that actually matters in a fire — that the systems work together. Does the duct detector actually shut down the air handler? Does the alarm actually release the doors, recall the elevators, start the stair pressurization fan?

NFPA 4 exists because the answer is often "not the way the sequence of operations says." Integrated testing walks the cause-and-effect matrix end-to-end: initiate each input, verify every required output, document what happened. Where it's required — or simply wise — it is the difference between a stack of individually-passing test reports and evidence the building works as designed.
